Bald Eagle Study

The name bald eagle, often thought to be a misnomer does not refer to the absence of feathers. Rather, it comes from the word piebald meaning 'marked with white'. The bald eagle is North America's second largest bird of prey, following the California Condor. It generally hunts on fish and is often thought to be a slightly clumsy fisher.

We hope you like the bald eagle paintings, posters and pictures depicted above. They help bring forth the strength and beauty of this bird which has come to symbolize the dreams of millions not just in the United States, but all across the globe. The ability of the eagle to swift through the skies with such magnificent grace is symbolic of everyone's innate desire to be free. The bald eagle's strength symbolizes the desire of nations to be strong and respected.

Artworks such as paintings and posters help bring forth the beauty of the bald eagle. It's unique yellow beak, white head and black body is instantly recognizable. And in flight, the bald eagle is well captured in art when it spreads forth its glorious wings, wide as they are while it soars through the sky.

The scientific name of the bald eagle is Haliaeetus leucocephalus. This name signifies a sea (halo) eagle (aeetos) with a white (leukos) head. The bald eagle is a member of the sea eagle family. Sea eagles generally inhabit coastal regions and the vicinity of lakes and streams. They feed heavily though not entirely on fish. One of the paintings above shows a bald eagle gliding over water ready for a hunt.

In the posters, paintings and pictures shown above, we hope that you are able to appreciate the beauty of the bald eagle and what it symbolizes.
