Canvas Transfer
Canvas
transfer

Canvas
transfer is the process of printing an art print on canvas. It involves
transferring the details of a fine art painting onto a canvas, which should end
up looking pretty much like an exact replica of the original painting. This is
possible because the canvas has a special surface that consists of repeating
grain structures, which make it possible to replicate the fine details of the
painting to be transferred. Canvas transfer makes it possible to reproduce
various shades of light and color variation as seen on original paintings. This
makes the canvas transfer process superior to other art printing
processes.
A
typical canvas transfer process involves the following:
The
details of a painting to be transferred to a canvas are available on what is
called a print. The print is first treated with a special liquid such as an
acrylic, which seizes the ink from it. The print is then placed in a bath to
soften the paper on it, which is then removed leaving only the image formed by
the ink. After drying, the ink is then embedded on the canvas leading to a
transfer of the image from the print to the canvas. At this stage, it is
essential that maximum ink retention on the canvas occurs, meaning that the
embedding process by which the ink is transferred to the canvas be properly
done.
After
the transfer process, techniques are employed to reproduce the brush stroke
patterns in the original painting. This is normally done by expert artists. When
the canvas transfer process is completed, the new canvas print is then wrapped
by the sides and if desired is also framed.
