in-depth look at demotivational posters - Achievement
 The
Achievement poster is one of the most captivating demotivational posters. It
contains the words: ACHIEVEMENT - You can do anything you set your mind to when
you have vision, determination and an endless supply of expendable labor. Set to
the pyramids of Egypt, this poster sarcastically focuses on the ability to
achieve practically anything at the cost of cheap labor. The ancient Egyptians
would likely not be happy to know that their hard work is credited this way.
They likely did not see the pyramids as monuments built on cheap labor but
rather as monuments built for royalty as their final resting place.
Several
ancient civilizations built pyramids though the most well-known are found in
present day Egypt, Sudan and Mexico. The Egyptian pyramids are located on the
west bank of the Nile River on the outskirts of Cairo in a town called Giza.
They rank as some of the best-known monuments in the world. They were
constructed to serve as royal tombs. People of the modern world of today find it
difficult to picture how these enormous monuments were built without the use of
cranes or pulleys. The pyramids however do tell of the engineering skills of the
ancient Egyptians and of the large amount of labor required for their
construction.
While
it will be relatively easy to build one of these pyramids today, it would be
inconceivable without the use of pulleys, cranes and lifting tackles. Else, the
cost would be so enormous that no sane individual or government will be willing
to fund the project. But the ancient Egyptians, probably operating on cheap
labor, got the job done. Yet, building the pyramids required much more than
cheap labor. It required skill as the the demotivational poster says, vision and
determination.
Despair
Inc. on its website humorously recommends that this demotivational poster would
be ideal for China. China as you may know has the fastest growing economy on the
planet (at the time of writing) with a very low cost of labor.
Though
the Achievement demotivational poster does point out that an endless supply of
expendable labor coupled with vision and determination can be called
achievement, coupling all three is also critical. Other demotivational posters
are just as satirical.
