An
in-depth look at demotivational posters - Dare to Slack

The
saying 'two heads are better than one' exists for a reason. When two people are
involved in a project, ideally each person needs to put in much less effort than
would be the case had the project been carried out by a single person.
Nature
has a way of making use of twos or groups to ensure that as little energy as
possible is expended when work is done. Take a look at the birds on the Dare To
Slack demotivational poster shown. At some point in time, wherever in the world
you live, you must have seen birds flying back to their nests at sunset, or
perhaps they were migrating.
The
interesting thing to note is that when birds fly as a group, they often fly in a
V-formation. This is a perfect way of conserving energy as they generally
require much less energy to complete a flight compared to if they had to fly
otherwise. The Dare To Slack demotivational poster captures this perfectly in
stating "When Birds Fly in Right Formation, They Need Only Exert Half The
Effort. Even In Nature, Teamwork Results in Competitive Laziness."
Nature
is not so different from you and I. Actually, we are a part of nature. Now, if
you had a choice of walking over to the grocery store or shopping mall to pick
up a few things, would you rather use the path that leads directly from your
house to the store or mall if such a path existed, or would you rather use a
path that first leads you to the railway station and then the bank and then a
tunnel before you finally arrive at the grocery store or mall?
Nature
always looks for the shortest ways possible to achieve things. And all things in
nature: men, women, children, birds, tiny organisms which we cannot see with our
naked eyes...they all take the easiest way out. Like the demotivational poster
shown above, you can choose to say that in nature, competitive laziness is what
all strive after. While I may not choose to put it that way, I do think that the
poster has a good point.
And
next time you think that only birds flying in formation like the easy way out,
why not walk to the grocery store or mall rather than use a car or a motorcycle
or a bicycle or the bus! Aha! Like the birds you also try to conserve energy by
looking for the easiest and quickest way out.
Satirical
and sarcastic as this may sound, it is a fact.
