An
in-depth look at demotivational posters - Discovery

Discovery
is the art of obtaining insight or knowledge for the first time. It is the
process of knowing or finding something no other person does or has. And this demotivational
poster has reasons for describing discovery with these words: "A company
that will go to the ends of the earth for its people will find that it can hire
them for about 10% of the cost of Americans".
Now
this isn't the kind of statement the average American citizen will like to hear.
Jobs are being lost in the United States thanks in large part to globalization
and outsourcing, by which production of a wide range of goods and services are
now carried out in poorer countries in order to save cost. On the Discovery
demotivational poster, the Taj Mahal is shown and for very good reason. A lot of
American Information Technology (IT) jobs have moved over to India which has a
pool of very talented and 'cheap' labor.
To
businesses, such discovery may be a great gain but back home in the United
States, a few jobs will end up being lost. And that's the message the
demotivational poster tries to convey: one man's discovery and gain is another
man's loss.
A
demotivational poster such as this will indeed strike a chord in places where
jobs have been lost due to outsourcing. But, it does present a fact bitter as it
may sound. Indeed, for a lot of companies have been able to boost profits simply
by moving production to less developed parts of the world.
