An
in-depth look at demotivational posters - Futility

"You'll
always miss 100% of the shots you don't take, and, statistically speaking, 99%
of the shots you do". So says the Futility demotivational poster. Futility
is an aspect of life no one ever looks forward to experiencing. No one would
ever want to believe that what they are currently working on is in plain words,
simply a waste of time.
Yet,
how often do we find that things we hoped would turn out successful and great ended
up being nothing but futile. This can be troubling, especially when so much time
and effort were dedicated to such a venture.
The
Futility demotivational poster makes a few points clear - if you fail to make an
effort, you simply cannot succeed. Now, that's a basic fact. You will never get
the golf ball into the hole if you never take a shot. Yet, for every shot you
take, there's a very high chance you will fail (except of course you're a great
golfer).
But,
even amidst this gloom, presented in the most satirical and sarcastic way, a ray
of hope glimmers in the dark. And that is, 99% still represents a bit of chance.
There is a chance you can make it. And, it's no wonder that the most successful
people are the ones who never give up.
Your
first 99 ventures might end up in failure but if you have the courage, patience
and strength to attempt a 100th, then you're sure to make it. The problem is
that most people have neither the courage nor strength to achieve such a feat.
And, the Futility demotivational poster pretty much knows just that. Why else
would it call 99% of the shots you take and miss futile, except for the fact
that you will give up simply before attempting the next shot which could end up
being the crucial shot?
