Egon
Schiele poster page

Born
in 1890, Egon Schiele was an Austrian painter who is very well known today for
his angular paintings. He was born in a town called Tullin and was accepted into
the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts at just 16. His early works were influenced by
the Art Nouveau style. In 1911, he moved to a small town in the present day
Czech Republic and began painting self-portraits, nudes and landscapes.
His drawings and paintings drew protests from local residents as a result of
their explicit sexuality, forcing him to move to a town close to Vienna where
his disturbingly erotic works and the use of young girls as models led to his
imprisonment.
Some
of his works are shown below in the Egon Schiele poster collection brought to
you in collaboration with Art.com. Click on an item to view a large image of it

After
his imprisonment, Egon Schiele was bitter at the way he was treated. He got
married to Edith Harms in 1915, a marriage many believed brought a lot of light
and happiness into his life as expressed in his large paintings which focused on
embracing couples.
He
died in 1918 at just 28 during the massive influenza outbreak of that year. The
epidemic also claimed the life of his pregnant wife.
Egon
Schiele has left to the world beautiful paintings and portraits. The nudes in
his paintings seem to have a sexual quality to them yet appearing emaciated and
awkward. We hope you enjoy the poster collection above and through them see the
man through his works which he so much loved.
