Selecting
motivational posters for classrooms

When
selecting motivational posters to be placed in classrooms, the first and
probably the most important thing you would need to consider is the audience. In
most cases, these posters are meant for high-school students to help build self
esteem and encourage them in their class work. Most teenagers are known to give
in to peer pressure in an attempt to conform to standards set by their friends,
some of which can have negative consequences. Having content-rich motivational
posters in classrooms can be a starting point in helping these young people to
cherish their unique qualities and build positively on them.
Content
is key when selecting motivational posters for classrooms. The message should be
such that students can relate to directly. This requires that the message be
clear, distinct, direct and plain. Kids and teenagers love things they can
understand and relate to. Therefore, the contents of the posters should not be
demanding or difficult to comprehend.
An
example of what can be considered to be in the category of ideal classroom
motivational posters would be one that contains a message such as: "It
is not what name others call you that matters, but what name you respond to that
truly determines who you are". Such a message can help young people
build character and self esteem, and would thus be good to have in
classrooms.
Another
very interesting motivational poster for classrooms is one that talks about
service with the words: "Everybody Can Be Great.
Because anybody can serve. You don't have to have a college degree to serve ...
You don't have to know about Plato and Aristotle to serve ... You don't have to
know Einstein's theory of relativity to serve ... You only need a heart full of
grace. A soul generated by Love." If there is one thing young people
dislike, it is a message that kindles out the hope of limitless aspirations they
dream about. Thus, reiterating simple facts on motivational
posters, such as that they have limitless potentials is an ideal way to get them
motivated and spur them into action.
There
are hundreds of other motivational posters that you will find ideal for
classrooms. Note also that posters could be used to reflect occasions. For
instance, a poster that talks about service would be ideal to have in the
classroom just before kids go on holiday because, it could spur some of them
into doing some volunteer work or community service rather than hanging out with
friends all day. While in the long run, it's up to teachers and principals
to decide what kinds of motivational posters to have in classrooms in their
schools, we do hope that the information presented here provides a bit of
insight as to selecting suitable motivational posters for classroom use.
