Selecting
the right picture or poster frames helps enhance the beauty of your pictures.
Generally picture frames can be classified in three main categories based on the
materials from which they are made:
-
Wooden
frames -
usually made from wood or wood-based materials.
-
Metal
frames – often made from metallic alloys.
-
Plastic
frames – made from polymeric materials like polystyrene.
Wooden
and metal picture frames are more widely used. A wide range of finishing styles
is available for all types of frames. Some finishes result in glossy smooth
surfaces while others give rustic surfaces. Several styles of picture frames are
also available from very simple designs to sophisticated and complex ornamental
designs.
Often
when selecting picture frames or poster frames, one has to decide whether or not
to apply matting. Matting refers to the application of a mat, which is a
decorative border between the picture and the frame as shown below.
The
choice of whether or not to apply matting rests with you. However it is
recommended that when framing posters such as fine art prints, matting should
only be used if it without doubt enhances the beauty of the picture as most art
prints are best framed without mats.
Happy
framing.
