MDF stands for Medium Density Fiberboard. It is a smooth surfaced and hard board. The MDF board is also stable and attractive in comparison to plywood. MDF is an ideal product to use for interior home furnishing, decoration, doors, cupboards and art frames.
MDF must be primed before it is used. To prime MDF you can select from a wide range of MDF or wood surface primers available on the market.
Before you start priming, ensure that the surface of the MDF board is clean, dry and free from any greasy or oily materials. Sand the surface and then wipe with a clean white cloth or paper towel. This helps ensure that the primed MDF board has a very smooth surface finsih.
Next, you will need to prepare the primer that you'd be using. It is very important that you follow the instructions given on the primer. Note that MDF and wood primers are high flammable. You will thus need to work in an area free of any flames or flammable materials. This is very important. No smoke, cigarette, open flame or heat should be present in the place where your MDF is being primed.
Also you need to adequately protect yourself when priming your MDF board. Do not inhale the vapor from the primer as it could be hazardous. Use a facemask which protects both your eyes and nose. Work in a well ventilated area. In this way, you will ensure that your primed MDF board comes out very well, with your health adequately protected as well.
