Life was difficult for him as a child with his mother moving around with both him and his younger sister who was two years younger. In Oakland, California at the age of fifteen, Tupac began discovering his love of rap music and that was also when he started 'hanging out with the gang' as he put it.
He started writing lyrics and christened himself MC New York. This didn't keep him away from the law. According to records, Tupac had been arrested eight times by the time he turned twenty. He had also been convicted of sexual assault and spent eight months in jail.
Tupac joined the rap group Digital underground, where he served as a dancer. Not long after that he released his own album "2Pacalypse Now" which was quite a success. Subsequent albums "Brenda's Got A Baby" and "Strictly for my N.I.G.G.A.Z." saw his fame increase tremendously around the world, though a number of people had reservations about the content of the lyrics he used. He also had a role in the movie "Juice".
Tupac's career continued to look bright though in November 1994, he was attacked and shot by robbers who made away with his jewelry. On September 7, 1996 he was shot in Las Vegas, Nevada and died six days later. His death came as a shock to many of his fans.
